Schroeder, City Administrator <br /> <br />CASE <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />As Council is probably aware, the Continental/US West merger affects several cable franchises in <br />the Metro Area. QCFV is one of the smaller franchises, yet it had the earliest renewal date. <br />Therefore, the Cable Commission has requested that the operation extend the existing franchise <br />term to allow for some of the larger cable commissions to negotiate new franchise agreements prior <br />to QCTV having to do so. The cable operator has agreed to an extension to September, 1998. <br />Enclosed is the agenda material which was presented to the QCTV for consideration of the <br />franchise extension. With the QCTV approval, each City must now also approve the action for that <br />extension to be valid.
