CASE # /

UPDATE ON ANOKA-HENNEPIN COMMUNITY EDUCATION
By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer

Background:

Steve Kerr, Community Education Manager for Ramsey Elementary, and several others from
Community Education, will be in attendance at the February 11, 1997, City Council meeting to
discuss the issue of increased funding for the community education progr _ams for the remainder
of 1997.

The budget request that was submitted for, and included in, the 1997 budget, year included
approximately 28 hours of programming. At that point, they had anticipated requesting an
increase to 35 hours knowing that the attendance at Ramsey Elementary would increase
significantly with the new addition to the facility.

During these budget discussions, it was the Council's directive that the budget be approved at the
existing level and any increase in funding be considered after it was known how successful the
increased programming was and whether a request for an increase in funding is substantiated.

Addie Larson and Jill Prall have accumulated the data necessary to analyze the success of the
increased programming and the demand that has been created by the expansion of the Ramsey
Elementary SShool. Steve Kerr will provide the "financial" impact of any requests for increased
funding. This information was not available as of the preparation of this case, but should be
available by the meeting.

If it is the desire of the Council to approve an increase in the funding, it would be necessary to
prepare a formal budget amendment resolution which could be adopted as a part of the consent
agenda at the second meeting in February.

Council Action:

Based on discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator
Finance Officer

CC: 02/11/97
