I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE POLICE PATROL OFFICER POSITION <br /> <br />By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The 1997 budget includes an additional Patrol Officer position in the Police Department, <br />effective July'l, 1997, at an annual salary of $31,021. In preparation for filling the position, the <br />Police Chief, Police Sergeant and Administrative Services Manager have reviewed the position <br />job description, agreed on qualifications needed and desired, formulated a newspaper ad and <br />outlined a selection process. The proposed process, with expected completion dates, is as <br />follows: <br /> <br />February 16, 1997 <br /> <br />March 3 <br />March 4 - 7 <br />March 10 <br />March I7-21 <br />March 22 <br />March 31 - April 4 <br /> <br />April 7 - 11 <br />April 22 or May 13 <br /> <br />Ads are placed in the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Minneapolis Star Tribune <br />the Anoka Union and with the organizations identified in the MPRS <br />Affirmative Action Plan submitted to the court and approved by the judge. <br />Deadline for applications is 5:00 p.m. <br />Applications are rated and ranked. <br />Applicants selected for first interviews are sent invitations to interview. <br />First interviews held; candidates selected for agility test. <br />Agility test given. Passing candidates invited to second interview. <br />Second interviews are held; top five candidates identified; <br />Police Chief selects one of top five for conditional job offer. <br />Background checks are done on finalist. <br />Finalist undergoes physical examination and psychological exam. <br />Personnel Committee receives recommendation to hire, effective July 1. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend that City Council authorize Administrative Services Manager and the <br />Police Department to proceed with the process for hiring a Patrol Officer. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br /> <br />City Administrator <br />Administrative Services Manager <br />Police Chief <br />Police Sergeant <br /> <br />PC 2/11/97' <br /> <br /> <br />
