E~timated Costs for a 6 Car patrol Fleet

Under this proposal, we would keep all (4) current patrol vehicles and would add the (2)
new squads. The (2) new squads would be complete build-ups with all new equipment.
One of the older squads, of which the light bar needs replacing badly, would have the
MDT, push-bumpers, and light-bar removed from it. Front and rear dash lights would be
installed and a much lesser price than that of a new lightbar. This 6th squad (unmarked)
would be used daily by the department's Supervisors, and would the spare squad when
the DARE officer is on non-DARE days and or a squad is down for service. This car, in
it's munarked capacity, could be used for future CSO's, Interns, and a 2nd Investigator.

Currently we have had a Chief, Sergeant, (2) Day shifters, and on non DARE days, the
DARE officer on day-power ..... 5 officers with only 4 squads. Day time hours, is also
when squads get their maintenance and repairs, which means that on those days, we are
(2) cars short. Luckily we have not had 2 cars down at the same time. Under the June
schedule, there will be I6 b_rs where (4) cars would be in service at basicially the same
time. (2) B shifters (2) Night Powers and then (2) C shifters. Without an additional
squad, if any squad is down, we will be short. The Investigator car cannot be used during
B shift hours, because the the investigator is usually on til 1700 hrs. Another
consideration is that our current squads have 75,000-80,000 miles on them now. We
average 3,331 miles per car per month. With the addition of the 14th officer in July, the
mileage on one car would increase by 1,392 (average monthly mileage per officer).. We
will have (4) squad with well over 120,000 miles on it by January or Feb or 1998.

A 6 ear Patrol Fleet would entaiI the following:

201
202
203

204
205

206

Would need new lightbar
Would receive 203's iightbar
Would become an unmarked unit for use by the Supervisors and as a spare
* See Exibit A below
Would remain the same 5
Brand New Squad - would be a complete build up with all new -
equipment, including a "used" MDT from Fridley PD
Brand New Squad - would be a complete build up with all new
equipment, except the MDT would come out of 203.

Exh/bit A
Cost to make 203 an unmarked unit to be used by the Chief/Sgt
and as a spare unit. 203's lightbar will be placed on 202, instead
of buying a new light-bar for 202.

Labor to remove MDT, old light-bar, and push-bumpers.
Labor to install a dash lazer light in front and rear and to
install side lights. Labor to put grill lights behind grill.

$ 230.00

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
