i I I I I I I I I I I I ,I I I I I I /~.~CASE #: ~ RECEIVE RECOMMENDATION FOR APPOINTMENTS TO CHARTER COMMISSION By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager Background: The current terms of five Charter Commission members expired on May 12, 1997. One of the commissioners, Bernard Steffen, is ineligible for reappointment because he has served two terms. The other five commissioners, Dennis Donovan, Keith Keifer, Richard Netzloff, and Virginia Spain-Brist are all eligible to serve another term and have all indicated that they are willing to do so. Reappointment questionnaires from Ms. Spain-Brist and Mr. Donovan had been not been received by the time agenda packets were assembled. The other two are attached to this case. In February 1997, five applicants were interviewed for the Charter Commission seat to which Ken Peterson was eventually appointed. The remaining four applicants were invited to a second interview on May 6, 1997 with a new interview panel. The recommendation of that panel is to appoint Timothy M. Vogt to the vacancy created by the retirement of Bernard Steffen.. A copy of Mr. Vogt's application letter is attached to this case. Committee Action: 1. Motion to recommend that Council forward a recommendation to the Chief Judge of the Tenth Judicial District to: Reappoint Dennis Donovan, Keith Keifer, Richard Netzloff and Virginia Spain-Brist to Charter Commission terms to expire May 12, 2001. Appoint Timothy M. Vogt to the Ramsey Charter Commission. 2. Motion to recommend that City Council direct the Administrative Services Manager to execute the necessary paperwork to process the appointments.
