I
I
I
I

I
I
I

I
I
I
I
I

AUTHORIZATION TO ADVERTISE FOR
PUBLIC WORKS MAINTENANCE WORKER
By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background:

The Streets Department has an opening for a Public Works Maintenance Worker due to the
resignation of Gregg Belsaas in August 1996. The position cannot be filled until all the
paperwork on the arbitration settlement is completed, but our arbitration attorney has advised us
it is all right to advertise the position. The starting salary range for the position is $9.64 to
$10.60 per hour.

Because summer is traditionally a very busy season for the Streets division, staff is anxious to fill
the position as soon as possible. For that reason, a Special Personnel Committee meeting was
held at 8 PM on Tuesday, May 6, 1997. Personnel Committee Chair Sheila Beyer and Mayor
Tom Gamec were present and voted to recommend approval of the staff request for authorization
to advertise the position.

Council Action:

Motion to ratify the Special Personnel Committee recommendation to authorize staff to advertise
the opening for a Public Works Maintenance Worker position in the Streets division of Public
Works.

Reviewed By:

City Administrator
Administrative Services Manager

Copies also distributed to:
Public Works Supervisor

CC 05/13/97

lindas\publicwk~hirepwmw.597
