During the last month, the City
received reservations for a total of 6.8 acres in the AEC Energy Park. These properties will be
created by the subdivision of the 13.6 acre lot located at the intersection of Ramsey Boulevard
Northwest and Sunwood Drive Northwest. This 6.8 acres will be home to two new buildings
totaling 72,000 square feet, with room to expand to over 100,000 square feet in the future. This
brings the total square feet projected for construction in 1997, to over 300,000, resulting in a
generation of new tax base of over 10 million dollars. To create a similar impact in just tax base
generation the City would need to construct 106 new homes, based on year to date averages.

Attached for your review are the building permit reports for the month of April, 1997. As the
reports show, the City issued 25 new home permits, which compares to the 26 projected during
this period in the residential activity forecast. This brings the total projected single family home
permits to 230 for the entire year. This trend of little or no additional growth compared to the
previous years would coincide with a national trend that seems to indicate a slowing in the
number of new single family homes being constructed. The timing of this new home
construction slow-down may be advantageous for the City as we attempt to absorb the growth
from recent years and the City Council considers future development and its effect on the
community.

If you have any suggestions or questions concerning the monthly reports, please contact me.

I

I
