Councilmember Elvig inquired as to how the process would move forward. Assistant Community Development Director Trudgeon explained that staff would bring back the issue on September 23rd for Council action and, in the meantime, notify residents and have discussion with the developer on the issue. Loucks Association representative stated that Areas B and C were pretty straightforward and there may not be a lot of options for those areas. Area A has been difficult ever since they realized the error. With a limited amount of tree removal they can make the development work. He inquired if the Council was making the statement that they cannot remove any oaks or limit the removal as much as possible. Councilmember Cook stated that he could agree with the loss of a limited number of trees unless they start hearing complaints from the residents. Mr. Bjerstad stated that they don't want to create drainage problems for the area so they would like to remove the trees necessary for the drainage and leave as many as possible. Councilmember Cook inquired if the area was common area or backyards. Mr. Bjerstad replied that it was primarily common area. Councilmember Cook inquired if the developer would be willing to install new trees after the grading is completed to replace the trees that were removed. Mr. Bjerstad replied that he has the most incentive to preserve the trees in the area. COUNCIL/STAFF INPUT None.
