Councilmember RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING OCTOBER 2003 AS AWARENESS MONTH introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: RESOLUTION #03-09-XXX DOMESTIC VIOLENCE WHEREAS, the community problem of domestic violence has become a critical public health and welfare concern in Anoka County; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is a crime, tolerated in Anoka County and perpetrators' of said conviction in accordance with the law; and the commission of which will not be crime are subject to prosecution and WHEREAS, over thousands of women and children have and will continue to access assistance from Alexandra House, Inc., a domestic violence service provider; and WHEREAS, domestic violence will be eliminated through community partnerships of concerned individuals and organizations working together to prevent abuse while at the same time effecting social and legal change; and WHEREAS, October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month; and WHEREAS, during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Anoka County organizations will inform area residents about domestic violence, its prevalence, consequences and what we, as a concerned community can do to eliminate its existence. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RAMSEY, ANOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: 1) That the City Council of the City of Ramsey proclaims October to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month on September 23, 2003. The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereofi And the following voted against the same: And the following abstained: And the following were absent: Whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted by the Ramsey City Council this the 23rd day of September 2003.
