MEMO

DATE: June 10, 1997

TO: City Council

FROM:

Steve Jankowski

1997 Street Maintenance Program Case #13

Bids were opened on Friday June 6, 1997, for the 1997 Street Maintenance Program. The work
is divided int~ three separate contracts: crack filling, sealcoating, and bituminous overlays.
Attached is a bid tabulation for the 1997 program. The prices received on both the crack filling
and sealcoating work were below last year's prices, when fairly significant increases were
originally anticipated. The unit price for the bituminous overlay work, however, was 10% higher
than estimated. Because of contingencies and the City cost share, however, the assessment
should rise only 4% over those estimated at the public hearing. In total the 1997 program has
come in $52,500 below the budgeted project amount. It is my recommendation that the three
contracts be awarded to the low bidders as follows:

Division A, crack filling

Allied Blacktop Co. $26,865.60

· DivisionB, sealcoating

ASTECH Corp.

$75,292.80

Division C, bituminous overlay

W.B. Miller Inc. $52,125.00

shared/engineer/1997stre/strememo
