§ 8.30

Page 248

3. The size of the effluent dose shall be determined by design of
the soil treatment ~,n~t, but in no case shall the dosing
chamber be sized to provide a dose of less th~n 75 gallons.

b. Do~_'ng Devices For Gravity Distribution.

A pump or siphon shall deliver the dose to the soil treatment
unit for gravity distribution over the soil treatment area.

For systems for dwellings, the dosing device shall discharge
at least 600 gallons per hour, but no more than 2,700 gallons
per hour.

For other establishments, the dosing device should discharge
at a rate at least 10% greater than the water supply flow rate,
but no faster than the rate at which effluent will flow out of
the distribution device.

If the dosing device is a siphon, a maintenance inspection
shall be made every six months and a report shall be filed
with the administrator. The siphon shall be maintained in
proper operating condition.

If the dosing device is a p, mp, it sha]] be cast iron or bronze
fitted and with St~r~less steel screws or constructed of other
sou_nd, durable and corrosion-resistant materials.

Where the soft treatment area is at a higher elevation than
the p,mp, sufficient dynsm~c head shall be pro¼ded for both
the elevation difference and friction loss.

Where the dosing device is a p,~r~p, an alarm device shall be
installed to warn of pump failure. For dwellings, there
should be reserve storage volume equal to one day's sewage
flow based on the amo~mts specified for n~mber of bedrooms
in §$.30.04 Subd. 3c. For other establishments, reserve
capacity shouJd be based on the nature, of the facility, but in
no case shall it be less than 25% of the daffy sewage flow.

D~s~ng Devices For Pressure Distributions.

The dosing device shall be a pump which is cast iron or
bronze fitted and with stainless steel screws or constructed of
sound, durable and corrosion-resistant materials.

The p~mp discharge capacity shall be at least 7-1/2 gallons
per m/nute for each 100 square feet of soil treatment area.

The pz=mp discharge head shalI be at least 5 feet ~eater than
the head required to overcome pipe friction losses and the
elevation difference between the pump and the distribution
de~-ice.

I

I
I:
I

I
I

I
I
I

I
I

Printed 12/28/90

I
I
