/~ASE #: [ <br /> <br />RECEIVE RECOMMENDATION TO APPROVE <br />APPOINTMENTS TO POLICE SERGEANT POSITIONS <br />By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />In May, the City Council authorized staff to post two sergeant positions that were open in the <br />Police Department. One was the vacancy that resulted when David Gustafson was appointed <br />Police Chief. The other was a promotional opportunity, rather than an ;additional position, <br />authorized in the 1997 City budget. Starting date for the positions would be on or after July 1, <br />1997, at a salary of $51,000 per year for each. <br /> <br />The positions were posted internally from May 14 to May 28 and two applications were received. <br />At the time the Council agenda was being prepared, the two applicants had not yet taken the <br />required written examination or oral interview, which were scheduled for June 6. <br /> <br />Based on the results of the exams and interviews, the Administrative Services Manager and <br />Police Chief will bring to the June 10 Personnel Committee meeting recommendations for <br />appointments and start dates. <br /> <br />Committee Action: <br /> <br />Motion to recommend that Council approve staff recommendations for appointments to the two <br />Sergeant position vacancies in the Police Department. <br /> <br />Reviewed By: <br /> <br />Copies also distributed to: <br /> <br />City Administrator <br />Police Chief <br />Finance Officer <br />Administrative Services Manager <br /> <br />PC 06/10/97 <br /> <br />Iindas\policeksgtcase.697 <br /> <br /> <br />
