ATTACHMENT TO FC CASE # 2

RECEIVE BIDS AND AWARD CONTRACT FOR PURCHASE ONE OF
SKID STEER LOADER
By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer

Background:

The City Council previously authorized solicitation of bids for one skid steer loader. We
received sealed bids from six companies, one of which was received in the mail after the
deadline. The five bids that were received timely were opened on Thm:sday, June 19,
1997, at 2:00 p.m. The sixth bid was opened upon receipt in the mail at approximately
2:30 p.m. that same day. Attached for you reference is a summary of the bids. It should
be noted that of the five companies, one submitted two bids, one of which did not meet
the required specifications.

The bids for just the skid steer loader [not including sales tax or the alternates] that met
minimum specifications, for consideration are as follows:

DEA.LER MODEL BID PRICE

Lano Equipment
St. Joseph Equipment
Longlake Tractor
Scharber & Sons
RDO Equipment

Melroe Bobcat $17,329.50
Case $18,630.00
New Holland $20,287.00
John Deere $20,389.00
Mustang $22,500.00

Included in the 1997 Adopted General Fund budget for this purchase is $27,000.00. The
City Engineer, Public Works Supervisor, Parks/Utilities Supervisor, City Administrator
and myself met and reviewed the bids for the skid steer loader and possible implements
that could be purchased and remain within the budgeted amount. The results of this
meeting was a recommendation to award the contact to Lano Equipment, the low bidder,
and to purchase the trailer, pallet forks~leveling bar and U-blade with the monies
available in the 1997 budget.

Further, to note that the robber tracks should remain in the 1998 Capital Outlay with
purchase early in 1998. It should be noted that a snowblower attachment is currently
listed in the 1999 Capital Outlay. Given the bids for the tree spade and planer, it is
suggested that these attachments be removed from future outlay consideration in favor of
rental on an as needed basis.
