I
I
I
!
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!1
I
I
I
I
I
I

MEMORANDUM

DATE:
TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

June 27, 1997

Mayor and Councilmembers
Ryan Schroeder, City Administrator

James Gromberg, Economic Development Coordinat~
Recycling Survey Conducted by Anoka County

Earlier this year the County conducted a survey of all households in Anoka County offering
information about waste related topics and the handling of residential generated refuse. In
addition to the offering of information, the County also included a postage paid survey response
card. After the information requests were fulfilled, the County forwarded any comments or
suggestions to the affected communities for any additional action or response to the comments.

Attached for your review are the comments that the County received in regards to Ramsey's
City-wide Curbside Recycling Program. With over 4,788 households, the City received only
three comments concerning the program, with only one of these comments being negative. The
other two comments should be addressed in the future with the development of a new contract at
the end of 1997. Overall, it would appear from these results that Ramsey's curbside recycling
program is being well received by the residents of the community. These responses suggest that
the City should provide for the expansion of the program to include additional materials. The
City will also be reviewing the possibility of having a central drop-off and pick-up in the trailer
court similar to the process used in the Rivers Bend Apartment building. In addition to being
more accepted by the trailer court residents, this would also reduce the amount of traffic in the
trailer court and the associated costs for the recycling contractor.

As always, if you have any questions concerning the curbside recycling program, please do not
hesitate to contact me.
