CASE tt q
REQUEST FOR A CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT TO EXCEED SIGN SIZE
RESTRICTIONS; CASE OF METROPOLITAN VISIONS/AMPRIDE
By: Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik

Background:

On June 11, 1997, the City received an application from Ampride for a conditional use permit to
exceed the sign size restrictions on their ground sign at 6360 Hwy. #10 N.W. The following
items are enclosed for your information:

a)
b)
c)

d)
e)

Site location map
Sign plan
Draft Planning Commission public hearing and regular meeting minutes dated
7/7/97
Proposed findings of fact
Proposed conditional use permit

Notification:

All property oWners within 350 feet of the subject property were notified of the public hearing.

Observations:

The City Code restricts the sign surface area on ground signs to 100 square feet in the
commercial district. The existing sign size at Ampride is 104 square feet. Ampride is a
convenience store facility and the applicant indicates that the 100 square feet of sign space is not
adequate for advertising weekly specials in the store. They are asking for the minimum amount
of sign space necessary to alleviate their hardship -- a 21 square foot reader board to be added to
their pylon sign.

The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on July 1 and there were no verbal or
written comments submitted pertaining to the request.

Recommendation:

The Planning Commission and City Staffreaommend approval of the request.

Motion to: q~l[ 0 ~ r~ela
Adopt Resolution #97-07-;-udopting_ Findings of Fact # ting to the request from
Metropolitan Visions/Ampride for a conditional use permit to exceed sign size
restrictions.

117
