CITY OF RAMSEY POSITION ANALYSIS <br /> <br />POSITION TITLE: Fire Chief/Director of Public Works <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT: Fire Department/Public Works <br /> <br />POSITION TITLE OF <br />IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: City Administrator <br /> <br />PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION: <br /> <br />This position has dual roles directing the activities of the Fire Department and the Public Works <br />Department. The portion of time allocated for each role is expected to change, with Public <br />Works responsibilities decreasing and Fire Department responsibilities increasing in the <br />following proportions: 1998 (30% Fire/70% Public Works); 1999 (40% Fire/60% Public <br />Works); and 2000 (50% Fire/50% Public Works), By the end of the year 2000, the position will <br />be evaluated to determine whether it should continue in this form or be replaced by another <br />structure. <br /> <br />The Fire Chief has overall responsibility for the conduct and performance of all personnel in the <br />Fire Department; the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures <br />to deliver fire suppression and prevention services; and short and long term planning to ensure <br />that the level of service provided meets the expectations of the City Council, City staff and <br />community. <br /> <br />The Public Works Director has overall responsibility for the conduct and performance of all <br />personnel in the Public Works Department; the development, implementation and enforcement <br />of policies and procedures; coordination of activities and resources in constructing, inspecting, <br />and maintaining public infrastructure consistent with Council policy and with Federal and State <br />regulations; and short and long term planning to ensure that the level of service provided meets <br />the expectations of the City Council, City staff and community. <br /> <br />SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> <br />Fire Department <br /> <br />B. <br />C. <br />D. <br /> <br />Supervise and direct Fire Department staff in a manner that promotes team building. <br />Develop and maintain a capital improvements program. <br />Develop and recommend a Fire Department budget program. <br />Evaluate, direct and coordinate activities and resources at fire scenes. <br /> <br />Fire Chief <br />Page 1 of,B <br /> <br /> <br />
