Goodrich, City Attorney and <br />David Gustafson, Police Chief <br />Background: <br />From our recent discussions, you are aware that the City is <br />mandated to adopt an ordinance for the purpose of controlling youth <br />access to tobacco. Please refer to the case and background <br />information in your November 10, 1997 agenda together with that <br />information mailed to you under separate cover dated November 14, <br />1997. Enclosed with this case is another copy of the model tobacco <br />ordinance prepared by the League of Cities. Our goal for this <br />evening is to arrive at proposed ordinance language in order to <br />introduce the ordinance and then consider it for final adoption on <br />December 9, 1997. Staff will be prepared to respond to your <br />questions. In addition, as you know, tobacco licensees have been <br />invited to both meetings and there may be imput from them also. <br />Recommendation: <br />To introduce the youth access to tobacco ordinance as modified this <br />evening. <br />Council Action: <br />Motion to introduce Ordinance 97-12- which <br />relating to the sale, possession, and use of <br />products and tobacco related devices in the City <br />illegal sale, possession, and use of such items <br />Review Checklist: <br />Acting City Administrator <br />Finance Officer <br />is an ordinance <br />tobacco, tobacco <br />and to reduce the <br />to and by minors. <br />1 <br />/.0 <br />
