Sewage disposal systems L <br />prevent the contamination of any e:dsting or future water supply by existing or <br />future sewage disposal system. However, the systems, procedures, and other <br />requirements of this chapter are not to be construed such as to afford direct <br />protection to an individual landowner, but rather the purpose of this chapter is to <br />adopt a general public policy relating to sewage disposal and clean water supplies. <br />5.30.02 DeB-rdtions. For the purpose of this chapter, certain terms or words <br />! <br />used herein shall be interpreted as follows: The word "shall" is mandatory; the <br />words "should" and "may" are permissive. All distances, unless otherwise <br />specified, shall be measured horizontally. <br />Administrator is the building official. <br />Agency is the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. <br />! <br />Agency Approved Disposal Facility is any disposal facility which has a <br />National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit or State <br />Disposal System Permit or letter of approval from the agency.. - <br />L <br />Alternative System is an individual sewage treatment system <br />employing such methods and devices presented in §8.30.04 Subd. 7 (Alternative <br />Systems). <br />Baffle is a device installed in a septic lank for proper operation of the <br />tank and to provide maximum retention of solids, and includes vented sanitary tees <br />and s-ibmerged pipes in addition to those devices that are normally called baffles. <br />Bedroom is any room within a dwelling that, in the judgment of the <br />zoning officer, might reasonably be used as a sleeping room, including but not <br />limited to rooms designated as den, office, or study, and unfinished areas with <br />potential development to same. <br />Building Drain is that part of the lowest piping of the drainage system <br />which receives the discharge from soil, waste and other drainage pipes inside the <br />walls of the building and conveys it to the building sewer beginning at least 1 foot <br />outside the building footings. <br />Building OfEeial is the plumbing inspector, building inspector or on- <br />site systems inspector. <br />Building Sewer is that part of the drainage system which extends from <br />r <br />the end of the building drain and conveys its discharge to an individual sewage <br />treatment system or to a public sanitary sewage collection system. <br />Capacity is the liquid volume of a sewage tank using inside <br />r <br />I <br />dimensions below the outlet. <br />Cesspool is an underground pit into which raw household sewage or' <br />I <br />other untreated liquid waste is discharged and from which the liquid seeps into the <br />surrounding soil. <br />Council is the Ramsey City Council. <br />! <br />Page 236 Printed 12/28190 <br />! <br />age/ <br />
