���ir g_B_ulletin Ma-y-25,-2011-i_Volume 5-j-No. 1-11 <br />San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee recently signed legislation that al- <br />lows "urban agriculture" throughout the city. Previously, old zon- <br />ing laws prohibited the selling of homegrown produce without a <br />permit and a Planning Commission hearing. The new ordinance <br />now "allows for the sale, pick-up and donation of fresh food and <br />horticultural products grown on -site throughout the city. It also al- <br />lows for the sale of `value-added products' like jams, pickles or pies <br />where the primary ingredients- are grown and produced on -site in <br />all areas except those zoned exclusively for residential uses." <br />Source: San Francisco Chronicle; www.sffate.com <br />FLORIDA <br />The state house is considering a bill, HB 7195, that would, <br />among other things, prohibit cities and counties from imposing <br />zoning and building restrictions only on charter schools. <br />Source: Miami Herald; www.miamiherald.com <br />The state house recently passed a bill that "gives teeth to an exist- <br />ing law that prohibits local governments to pass firearm regulations." <br />The bill allows "those `harmed' by local gun regulations [to] sue local <br />governments and receive up to $100,000." "The bill has implications <br />for dozens of firearms discharge ordinances in communities across the <br />state." The bill still awaits consideration by the state senate. <br />Source: Pensacola News Journal; wwwtmi.com <br />HAWAII <br />Pending in the state legislature is a bill, HB 44, which aims to <br />suppress prostitution by instituting a penalty of a year in jail for so- <br />licitations within 750 feet of a school or park. <br />Source: Honolulu Civil Beat; www.civilbeat.com <br />MINNESOTA <br />The state legislature is considering bills (Senate File 270 and <br />House File 389) that would provide that: "counties, cities, and <br />towns may only adopt interim zoning maps or ordinances, com- <br />monly called moratoria, after public notice and a hearing and a <br />two-thirds vote of the governing body." The bills would also pre- <br />vent interim ordinances from delaying, impeding, or interfering <br />with uses, developments, or subdivisions for which a complete ap- <br />plication is pending before the governing body.
