In 1995, Anoka County received $949,000 in Metropolitan Park and Open
Space funds for first phase development of the park. An additional $345,000 funding is anticipated
as a part of the Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources funding appropriation this spring.
Together, these funding sources will provide nearly $1.3 million for first phase funding of parks
development.

Since August 1996, the department has been in the process of evaluating on-site resources,
developing a park design program, and establishing alternative concept plans for the project. This
process has included a meeting with local public officials last November and more recently, a
meeting with the local park and recreation commissions from the four surrounding communities on
January 14th (Burns Township, City of Andover, City of Oak Grove, and City of Ramsey).
Favorable comments on the proposed plans have been received at both of these meetings.

On F_~..ebruary 13~th, the Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting a public information
meeting on the proposed development plans for Rum River Central Regional Park. The meeting will
be conducted at the Bunker Hills Activities Center from 7:90 p.m. to 9:0.0p.~. Following the public
information meeting, final refinements will be made to the plan and presented to the County Parks
and Recreation Committee in early March. At the present, we anticipate the initial stages of park
construction to begin in the Fall of 1997, with completion in Fall 1998.

Affirmative Action / Equal Opportunity Employer /~,~'
