park so that the users can leam about the potential for degradation and treat the park with the sensitivity
that is necessary.

Recommendation: All roads and trails throughout the park should have a vegetative buffer strip

around them to reduce and control human impacts on the established communities and the Mississippi
R~ver.

Because the park is expected to be used by many visitors, traffic (both human and automotive) is
unavoidable. Car exhaust and heavy traffic in areas mediately surrounding roads and trails could become
damaging to the native communities established in the park. Buffers of species tolerant of such conditions
should be established to reduce impact to the native communities.

Recommendation: Vegetation for the buffer strips shouM be selected from native species
whenever possible.
;ro ensure maximum representation of native species within the park, buffer strips composed of
native species are desirable. However, non-native species may prove to be a necessary alternative.

Recommendation: The park entrance should be located at the intersection ofHighwcly J 0 and
Ramsey Boulevard (County Road 56).

Currently the park entrance is at the intersect/on of Highway 10 and Traprock Street. This
intersection contains no stoplight, which can make turning onto Traprock Street difficult during heavy
traffic. The intersection at Highway 10 and County Road 56 already has a stoplight and could better
accommodate cars turning into the park.

Recommendation: New roads, trails, and parking lots shouM be built to accommodate park

Many visitors are expected to use the park as the city of Ramsey continues to grow. Current roads
and trails would be inadequate at getting people around the park. New roads and trails must be built to
meet visitor needs and provide access to all parts of the park.

Recommendation: The new roads and trails built shouM include the current road system
whenever possible.

Many roads and trail already exist in the park. These sites can serve as the foundation of the
park's future road and trail network. By using the existing roads and trails excessive impact on other
habitats will be avoided.

29
