Case #3 MISSISSIPPI WEST PARK By: Mark Boos, Parks/Utilities Supervisor Background: As you are aware, Anoka County owns 273 acres centralized along the Mississippi River within Ramsey. A concept plan has been prepared which proposes adding Mississippi West to the regional park system and at the same time identifying the best recreational uses for the park. The Anoka County Board of Directors and the Park and Recreation Commission is expected to approve the attached plan on August 7th. Anoka County Staff will be presenting a request to the Metropolitan Park and Open Space Commission later this month. Observation: The purpose of this case is to request that the Park and Recreation Commission recommend City Council adopt a resolution supporting the concept plan for Mississippi West Park. The Commission should familiarize themselves with page 3 and pages 6 through 9. It is important to point out that details referenced in the plan will vary before any one element reaches fruition (i.e. the swimming area maybe dropped). The main function of the plan is the examination of Mississippi West's merit as a regional park. The plan references or addresses Staff and Council's previous development concerns in the area (i.e. frontage road). City Staff supports the Mississippi West Park's inclusion in the men-o park system pursuant to Anoka County's proposal. Commission Action: Motion to recommend City Council adopt a resolution recommending the Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Commission add Mississippi West to the Regional Park System.
