I

I

COUNCIL BUSINESS:

I
I
I

Case #1: Home Care Month, November 1995

Sharon Ringwalski of Metro Home Health Care presented Council with some facts relating
to home health care and asked that Council adopt a resolution proclaiming Home Health
Care Month.: She also extended an invitation to Council to attend Metro Home Health
Care's open house.

Motion by Couneilmember Beyer and seconded by Councilmember Beahen to adopt
Resolution g95-11-251 proclaiming Home Care Month, November 1995.

i

Motion carried. Voting Yes: Mayor Hardin, Councilmembers Beyer, Beahen and
Peterson. Voting No: None. Absent: CouncilmemberZimmerman.

I

Case #2:

Request for Extension to Site Plan Approval; Case of Bernie
Vevea, Ve-Ve, Inc.

I

I
I

I
I

Zoning Administrator Frolik explained that on October 22, 1991, the City approved an
application from Mr. Bernie Vevea of Ve-Ve, Inc. for site plan approval to construct a
5,900 square :foot expansion to his existing facility located at 14047 Azurite Street NW.
City code es~blishes that site plan approvals are effective for one year. Since that time, the
City has granted three one-year extensions to the site plan for the expansion. She explained
some areas in the site plan that would be deficient if the plan had been granted approval
more recently.

City Administrator Schroeder stated that staff was originally going to recommend denial of
Mr. Vevea's request. However, we have talked with Mr. Vevea and it's his expectation
that he will be able to construct the extension this spring. He told Mr. Vevea that he
(Schroeder) would recommend that Council grant this extension with the caveat that it
would be the last extension. He then recommended Council approve the extension until the
end of September 1996. He added that he and Mr. Vevea had also talked about economic
development activities and we decided we would talk about EDA participation.

Mr. Vevea stated he wanted to do a lot work with Ryan Schroeder and the City Engineer
and he believes it will happen. With the addition, we were going to go over 16,000 square
feet. The state ordinance says you have to put in a fire sprinkling system and without City
water in that area, he would first have had to put in a holding pond, a fh'e pump, etc. This
would have cost as much as the addition so we did quite an extensive amount of work with
an engineer to put up fire walls, etc. Mr. Vevea explained what his business manufactures.

Mayor Hardin commented that Ms. Frolik brought up some changes that would not be
approved today that were approved four years ago. He inquired if Mr. Vevea is willing to
discuss these with City staff.

I
I
I

Mr. Vevea replied he will discuss anything the City wants and whatever Mr. Schroeder
recommends.

Mr. Schroeder offered to bring the discussion points back to Council.

Motion by Councilmember Peterson and seconded by Councilmember Beyer to adopt
Resolution g95-11-252 approving Mr. Bernie Vevea's request for an extension to the 1991
site plan for the expansion of Ve-Ve, Inc.

City Council/November 14, 1995
