HOUSE PROJECT
By: Ryan R. Schroeder

Background:

At the Council meeting of January 9, staff announced that the City had been approached by
the State D.A.R.E. office asking if we had an interest in the construction of a D.A.R.E.
house. We would be involved in the development of the property and Ramsey's D.A.R.E.
program as well as the Minnesota D.A.R.E. program would share in the net proceeds. The
house would, have an approximate $200,000 value -and is of panelized construction. This
house will ~ the premier item of display at the Home. Show this year and if Ramsey
chooses to participate, it will be on the display as the D.A.R.E. house in the City of
Ramsey. If we chose to participate, we would have delivery in March. Most, but not all,
of the materials will be donated. Staff feels there would not be a down side and the up side
- if all goes Well, will be dedicating proceeds to D.A.R.E. At the last meeting, Council
expressed an interest in the project and appointed a task force to discuss it.

On Thursday, January 18, 1996, Councilmember Beyer, Police Chief Auspos,
Patrol/D.A.R.E. Officer Singewald and I met to discuss this project. An update will be
presented at the Council meeting.

Council Action:

Based upon discussion.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator

CC: 01/23/96

/jmt

#/3
