I
I
i
I
I
I

CASE

PROPOSED ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 9 (ZONING AND
SUBDIVISION OF LAND) OF THE RAMSEY CITY CODE REGARDING
STRUCTURE SETBACKS FROM THOROUGHFARES
By: Zoning Administrator Sylvia Frolik

Background:

The Planning Commission initiated an amendment to the City Code to revise the required
structure setback from thoroughfares. A fair amount of the variances applied for are from
the thoroughfare setback requirements.

Observations:

For many months, the Planning Commission and City Engineer have been working on the
proposed ordnance. The current ordinance states that structures must be set back 110 feet
from centerline of roadway or 50 feet from property line, whichever is greater. The
proposed ordinance requires 60 feet from center of road right-of-way plus the applicable
local setback. (front, side or rear yard as established by City Code). The 60 feet from
centerline of right-of-way preserves a 120 foot wide corridor, which the County has
determined iS a sufficient area in which to construct any future improvements. Beyond
that, the local applicable setback should be appropriate along County roads as well as the
local streets.

Recommendation:

The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing and recommended adoption of the
ordinance.

Council Action:

Motion to:
Introduce Ordinance g96- to amend the structure setback from thoroughfares to
60 feet from centerline plus the local applicablle setback.

Review Che :klist: City Engineer

CC: 2/27/96
