By VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DINNER Community Development Intern Sue Matthews Case # /(~ Background: Over the past several years, the City Council has expressed an interest in having an opportunity to officially recogni~ the valuable service commission members provide to the City. Because these ongoing, voluntary contributions of time, energy, and expertise do play an important role in the functions of localgovernment, it is proposed that the Mayor and City Council host an appreciation dinner and authorize the expenditure of $2, I00 from the Council contingency fund. Potential attendees [including guests]: Councilmembers (10), Commissioners (58), Department heads (12), and Commission staff (12). A maximum of 92 people. Notification: Invitations to include return postcard with dinner choice selected. The end of April is both national and state Volunteer Week. (The local theme for 1996 is "VOlunteers: The Heart of Minnesota.") Either that week or early May. 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday is suggested. Location: To be determined. Distance, price, and quality will be considered. Costs: 92 meals, invitations, and presentation materials are estimated at $2,100. Remaining funds will be returned to the City Council. Program: Mayor's welcome and introductions. City Administrator's presentation on a theme such as "Where we've been, where we're going." Mayor's closing remarks.
