State of Minnesota <br /> <br /> Department of Transportation <br /> <br /> Metropolitan Division - RosevH]e <br /> <br />Office <br /> <br />Memorandum <br /> <br />?O: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />PHONE~ <br /> <br />February 23, 1996 I <br />Steve Jankowsk~, <br />Engineer for th~,City of Ra~rns,ey MN <br />PreDesi 'ng~(~Ject ~%16nager - ' I <br />582 - 1297 <br />T.H. 47 Turn Lane & ByPass Lane Project and I <br />Bridge Replacement at Trott Brook & Ford Brook I <br /> <br />For fl~ following reasons, we intend to defer these projects until 1999 for letting <br />instead of the 1998 letting. <br /> <br />In order to purchase the right-of-way necessary to construct the turn & <br />bypass lanes our Right-of-Way Section needs more current mapping, which <br />will take an additional 6-8 months. <br /> <br />It would be necessary to detour the traffic in 1998 to construct the bridges <br />at Trott Brook + Ford Brook, then impact the traffic again in 1999 while we <br />wodld be constructing the turn & bypass lanes as well as replacing the cross <br />culverts which would also require detouring traffic again. <br /> <br />This segment of TH 47 is also being programmed for a 'Mill + Overlay Project" <br />in 2001. This project will be accelerated to a 1999 letting allowing Mn/DOT <br />to complete all work on this portion of TH 47 in the same construction <br />season, <br /> <br />By performing the Mill+Overlay with the turn lanes we eliminate some <br />pavement joints and get e stronger pavement structure. <br /> <br />For these reasons - we have decided to defer both projects until 1999 sd that <br />traffic would only need to be impacted once. <br /> <br />] would appreciate If you could relay this information to your City Council.
