Schroeder, City Administrator

Background:

As Council is aware, the City recently purchased property from Tom and Patti Kurak for the
construction of Sunwood Drive, east of Sunfish Lake Boulevard. As part of that purchase, we
have acquired t~.o remnant parcels which were severed from the balance of the Kurak property by
the Sunwood Dffve right-of-way. After Completion of the roadway, the City will have no further
use of this prope~y. It has been intended that it would be provided for sale to the developer of the
adjacent property (Good Value Homes) in order to facilitate subdivision of the property Good
Value purchased;from Grayce Kalstad. Good Value has offered $10,000 per acre for the property.
We have not couatered this offer given that staff does not currently have Council authorization to
provide for the sale of the property. Given recent Council discussions on land sales, it would be
our intent to publicly advertise that the property is for sale as a negotiated purchase. Any purchase
would be subject to adoption of the ordinance authorizing the sale and completion of the roadway
project in order tO assure that temporary construction easements either are not necessary or are
granted to the City prior to releasing control of the property. A sketch of the parcels are attached.

Council Action:

Motion to introduce Ordinance #96-XX authorizing sale of excess property.

Reviewed by:

City Administrator

CC: 04/23/96

,~mt
