CASE

AMENDMENT TO CHAPTER 6 OF CITY CODE
OTHER PROHIBITED PARKING
By: Mike Auspos, Police Chief

Background:

While working on plans for traffic control for the Game Fair 1996, it was determined that, in order
to efficiently regulate parking in the neighborhoods surrounding the Fair, it was necessary to
amend the City C_0de relating to parking. The present section, 6.03.15 Subd. 1, limits the distance
the City Engineer :is authorized to post with regulatory signs for parking to 100 feet in length.
Staff is unaware Of why this limitation is in the ordinance. At the time this case was being
prepared, City AttCmey Goodrich was unavailable; however, he may be able to provide input at the
meeting concerning this limitation. By removing this distance limit, the neighborhood areas can be
posted at the streets leading into the area to be controlled and enforcement can take place. This
method is similar lo those signs used by the City of Anoka for the County Fair and the Anoka
Police Department:repons they have had no problem with enforcing them. Attached is a copy of
the present ordinance subdivision 6.03.15 Subd. 1.

Council Action:

Motion to introduce Ordinance ~96-XX mending Chapter 6 of the City Code; Other Prohibited
Parking.

Reviewed by:

Police Chief
City Administrator
City Engineer

CC: 05/14/96
/jmt

Copies also distributed to:
City Attorney
