PUBLIC WORKS MONTHLY REPORT - APRIL 1996
By: Merle Mevissen, Public Works Supervisor

The month of April saw a variety of tasks from snow plowing and sanding to grading of dirt
streets and street Sweeping. Hopefully, the snow plowing is done for the year, although I don't
have the plows off the tracks yet. We usually take those off in May. The street sweeping is about
50 percent complete. We are working together with a private contractor with one extra sweeper
and it's working out pretty well. Another week of sweeping should finish the job.

We have started repairing the winter scuffs from the snow plows where they damaged the
boulevards which ~s nearly finished - then we will start patching potholes. We have a few areas
where the road is a~ompletely broken up due to frost boils in the clay. These areas will have to be
dug out and filled with sand and Class 5 to stabilize the road bed.

We installed some signs that got broken over the winter and also did some tree and brush
trimming. Water pumping was due to frozen road culverts. This happened in four separate areas
this year due to the frost going down so deep, approximately six feet.

/~mt
