Applicant selected should be active in some type of community event/function. Should not have an ax to grind. Use same interviewing/appointment process for all commissions unless charter dictates otherwise. All commisaions should use same system. HR doesn't have to be personally involved, but should assist with questions and outline the procedure to be followed. Process shoald be consistent for all commissions. 5. Interest in the commission's work. Do they attend commission meetings as citizens? Prior knowlbdge is not as important as a willingness to learn, professional demeanor, being respe6tful and polite, being cool headed, willing to speak up, ability to disagree and stay friendsl Also need to consider how this person adds to the current mix on the commission, Long range vision. Commissions should have diverse interests represented. 7. Should People be able to serve simultaneously on more than one commission? Probably not a good idea. As a general[ rule, no. Charter plus one might not be a problem. Very uncomfortable with that. Charter plus one probably okay. No, need to ,get as many people involved as possible. 3/15/96
