I
!

I
!

I
I
'1
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
!

streets. I think the issues are people are fighting against each other. We are professionals- when
the City looks at this, I hope you look at families involved that are related to the situation.

Andries Hillebregt, 16926 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: How many Councilmembers know about
the history - the Whole issue of paving Bison Street, 100 percent of the Bison Street residents
wanted to get the tOad paved and then it was canceled.

Mayor Hardin: There was a petition against it.

Andries Hillebregt, 16926 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: No - there was 100% of the residents in
favor of it. It was,another-t' development that brought in a petition against it. People can only take
things so long. People are getting fed up with it. I am worried about someone shooting someone.
This person (Dusbabek) is erratic.

Mr. Schroeder: Are there any other solutions that have not been mentioned yet?

Resident: The core is speed and safety; the solution is in bringing the community together.
Closing a road separates the community.

Larry Sanders, 17135 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: Six years ago I told Council to put in stop signs
on 171st. Three stop signs would end this whole thing.

Jim Huber, 17061 ',Bison Street NW, Ramsey: If you put a stop sign at the west end and at the east
end in front of Tim's, that would take care of the problem on 171st Avenue. If Tim persists to
have the street turhed into a bikeway, we intend to sue the City to claim that property and I pay
assessments on that road and I would like to have a rebate on that.

Tony Keyser, ~6967 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: Speed and traffic is the problem - put in speed
bumps and stop signs.

Mr. Schroeder: city Council told us to put up temporary barricades and they will stay up until City
Council says otherwise. Councilmember Beahen said we need your assistance - one is to keep the
barricade up. We have to send someone over every day to put it back up. The intent is temporary
to study the results. City Council will receive the information presented tonight - staff will
itemize it and get it to them at the earliest possibility. Do you want to have another meeting?

Andries Hillebregt, 16926 Bison Sn:eet NW, Ramsey: This is a democracy. I pay taxes on that
road. Most of the ]people, since Bison has been paved, do not go through that neighborhood. This
has turned out to be a playground for kids.

John Anderley, 16917 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: The City is concerned about safety - how can
the City Council close 171st without knowing the history. We did not have a vote in this.

Mr. Schroeder: We heard tonight that we have made a rash decision.

John Anderley, 16917 Bison Street NW, Ramsey: You (City Council) have caused more to divide
a neighborhood.

Resident: Take it down and start it from the beginning and see what the support is.

Mayor Hardin: CitY Council has got an idea of how many want it open and how many want it
closed. This issue will be put on the City Council agenda for reconsideration so City Council can
deal with it again. We will talk one more time about this at the Council table.

Bison/171 st Neighborhood Meeting/September 11, 1996
Page 7 of 8
