CASE #: ~

RECEPTIONIST APPOINTMENT
By: Linda Waite Smith, Administrative Services Manager

Background:

In September our receptionist resigned because her husband accepted a job elsewhere. The City
Council authorized us to advertise that position, which we did in the Anoka County Union and
Shopper. The stat'ting salary for this full-time position was advertised as $8.96 per hour, which
is the beginning salary for the position's class.

We received 93 applications which were reviewed, rated and ranked. Making even the first cut
was difficult because so many people had such excellent credentials. We invited the fourteen
top-ranked applicants to a take a clerical exam on typing, filing and language arts on September
23. Recording Secretary Jo Thieling and I then interviewed these candidates on September 27.

The finalist in this process was Ms. JoAnn Krejca. She has a bachelor's degree in Business
Communications from the University of Minnesota. For the past eight years she has worked for
TCF Banks in customer service.

Staff Recommendation:

We are recommending that Ms. JoAnn Krejca be offered the position of Receptionist at a starting
salary of $8.96 per hour, contingent on successful completion of background checks with the
Department of Motor Vehicles and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and a pre-employment
physical examination that includes drug and alcohol tests. Her estimated start date would be
October 15, 1996.

Committee Action:

Motion to recommend that Council authorize hiring of Ms. JoAnn Krejca as Receptionist at a
starting salary of $8.96 per hour.

Reviewed By:

City Administrator
Administrative Services Manager

CC 10/01/96
