!
I
I
I
I
i
I
I
I

City Engineer, the Public Works Supervisor, and the Chief of Police, or their designated
representatives; 3) a written summary of the staff committee's f'mdings shall be transmitted to the
Road and BridgeI Committee; and 4) following review by the Road and Bridge Committee, the
person making the request shall be advised in writing of the determination. Also considered at the
August meeting v~as a list of eight commonly requested traffic calming measures, some of which
include requests ~or signs, road closures, speed bumps, etc. Mr. Jankowski stated he would like
to get a formal p61icy that the City Council can support and he was hoping to have time to go
through each issue listed. He proposed the posting of four-way stop signs, stop signs and yield
signs that we could rely on the manual of traffic control and that it be the basis for these requests.

Upon inquiry by Councilmember Zimmerman, Chief Auspos stated they have talked several times
about these reque-~ts.

Councilmember Zimmerman suggested there should be more discussion of this issue when
Councilmember Beyer is present.

Chief Auspos explained that some signs are not warranted - people want them to control speed.

Councilmember Zimmerman felt that it means a lot to homeowners to have child at play or deaf
child signs. Sometimes when you grant a request, you have other people that are not satisfied with
what you did.

Mr. Jankowski felt that some of the other ones, like "children at play" signs will have more
discussion. These signs are discouraged but many cities do post them.

Councilmember ~mmerman suggested having a list for the next meeting and Police Chief Auspos
and Public WorksiSuperv~sor Mevissen could go over the list and Mr. Jankowski could have some
sort of proposed pr~licy at the next meeting.

ADJOURNMENT

Consensus was to,adjourn the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 6:08 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,

[,._~ording Secretary (_./

~te~e Jank6v%ld -
City Engineer

Road and Bridge

Committee/September 9, 1996
