MB/E):
June 6, 1994

To: Steve Jankowski

From: Heidi Welsch

RE: Deaf/Blind/Handicap Child Road Signs

I have called 20-25 metro area cities, .in search of a written policy
on this matter. The only city which has any written policy is Blaine.
Most other cities simply put a sign up when requested. Several
cities did mention that they keep a record of the child's name,
address, and age.

Woodbury, in particular, requires a written request for such a sign.
In addition, the sign file is reviewed yearly to ensure that no family
has moved or' become of such age that the sign is' no longer
necessary. Woodbury did decline a request for a blind child'sign
since there are no provisions for such. in the ADA.

I suggest we draft a request form which contains all the necessary
information and delineates the child's age at which the sign will be
erected and dismantled.
