This success is based upon the issuance of building permits for the construction of over 530,000 square feet of new building space. This total represents 145 percent of the builc[ing space constructed over the past 7 years (1989-1995). The area will result in an increase in the total tax generation of over $912,192, with the City's normal portion being over $155,000. Forthnately, many of these projects were completed in Tax Increment Financing Districts resulting in the City receiving a larger share of the total tax bill. The additional funds are used by the City W fund the improvements that have been completed in the Development District to allow for the construction of the new buildings. Attached for your review are the building permit reports for the month of November, 1996. As the reports show, the~City issued 8 new home permits which compares to the 12 projected during this period in the residential activity forecast. This brings the total single family home permits to 266 for the year. This rate of construction puts the City on a path to construct a total of 274 new homes in 1996, which will result in a population increase of approximately 945 people this brings the estimated total population to 18,097.
