Schroeder, City Administrator <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />As Council is iaware, we provided for furnishing the new police facility and refumishing the City <br />Hall out of tho 1996 and 1997 budgets. Out of the 1996 budget, $76,954 was available. There is <br />an additional $,25,000 set aside within the 1997 budget. To date, approximately $35,000 has been <br />spent or encurhbered toward either the Police or Community Development departments, leaving <br />approximately'~ $42,000 available within this year. It had been contemplated that we would <br />complete Finag, ce and Administrative Services out of the 1996 budget (as well as Community <br />Development) but hold off on completing the Police Department until 1997, in order to make sure <br />we were certain_ of our needs in that department, given the move and the desire to reorient the work <br />flow. However, we believe that we are able to ascertain our needs within the Police Department <br />sufficient to c~mplete the furniture order at this time. We are also prepared to complete the <br />Community D6velopment Department order but are not finished with the other departments as of <br />yet. <br /> <br />We have been Providing for the furniture purchases through purchasing contracts through the State <br />of Minnesota, lrlennepin County, and the University of Minnesota. Our request is that Council <br />authorize the completion of the furniture purchases not to exceed the 1996 total allocation of <br />$76,954 (apprOximately $42,000 of which is remaining) in order to outfit the Community <br />Development De~ partment, complete the Police Department and encumber the balance of the funding <br />for 1997 purch~es within Finance and Administrative Services. We expect to be able to complete <br />the Police Dep .a!'tment for under $10,000.
