AUTHORIZE BUDGET AMENDMENT FOR THE PURCHASE OF SLIDE <br />PROJECTOR FOR CRIME PREVENTION AND D.A.R.E. PROGRAMS <br />By: Jessie Hart, Finance Officer <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />The Police Department is requesting the purchase of an auto-focus slide projector which would <br />be used as a teachin~g tool to assist and compliment the instruction of D.A.R.E. for both the <br />student and parent programs. The unit would also be used at D.A.R.E. graduation for a slide <br />show presentation. <br /> <br />The slide projector would also be used by Police Department personnel in conducting crime <br />prevention programs,, safety programs, and other programs such as the annual Becky Weiss <br />Memorial Bike RoaO-eo and Kid Kare Program. The State of Minnesota has slide programs <br />available to crime prevention officers, to assist them in their local presentations. It is anticipated <br />that the Ramsey Police Department would prepare it's own presentations to fit our community <br />needs and concerns. <br /> <br />In short, the Police ~ Department is looking at this purchase as a tool to assist them in their <br />continued effort to b~e more "proactive" in the approach to law enforcement. This is an intragal <br />part of the overall C~mmunity Policing Plan. <br /> <br />This purchase was not included in the Adopted 1996 General Fund Budget and is not proposed in <br />the 1997 General Fugd Budget. It has been determined after analysis of the year-to-date numbers <br />that there will be sgfficient moneys available in the D.A.R.E. budget to accommodate this <br />purchase during 1996. <br /> <br />Officer Dwyer has researched the various makes and models and is requesting to purchase a <br />Kodak Carousel 4600/BC-5 Medallist slide projector from National Camera Exchange. This <br />would require a budget amendment in the amount of $525.00 which would cover the costs of the <br />machine, an addition~al lens, 2-carousel trays and sales tax. These moneys would be re-allocated <br />from the Miscellane6us Operating Supplies line item to a Capital Outlay line item and would not <br />effect the overall budget. <br /> <br />Committee Action:: <br /> <br />Motion to recomraend City Council adopt i ' 96-12-XXX Authorizing Budget <br />Amendment for the Purchase of Slide Projector for Crime Prevention and D.A.R.E.
