Me~nbers can then introduce new <br />items of business, or can!move to take from the table any <br />matter that is on thc tabli~ (17, 33), in the order in which <br />they are able to obtain ithe floor when no question is <br />pending, as explained in ~ and 4. So long as members are <br />reasonably prompt in clafming the floor, the chair cannot <br />prevent the making of !legitimate motions or deprive <br />members of the right to i~troduce legitimate business, by <br />hurrying through the proceedings. <br /> <br /> OPTIONAL HEADINGS[ In addition to the standard <br />order of business as justldescribed, regular meetings of <br />organizations sometimesiinclude proceedings of the type <br />listed below, which mayfbe regarded as optional in the <br />order of business prescribed by this book. <br /> After the call to order and before the reading of the <br />minutes, the next two hea rilings may be included: <br /> Opening Ceremonies or ~F~c~cises. Opening ceremonies <br />immediately after the m.eeting is called to order may <br />include the Invocation (wl~ich, if offered, should always be <br />placed first), singing oftl~e National Anthem, the Pledge <br />of Allegiance to the flag, ri~-ual briefly recalling the objects <br />or ideals of the organizatibn, or the like. <br /> Roll Call. In some o~ganizations it is customary at <br />meetings to call thc roll o~officers in order to verify their <br />attendancer-or, sometimes in very small societies, even to <br />call the roll of members.
