CASE #1

CARBON MONOXIDE INCIDENTS
By: Dean Ka, pler, Fire Chief

Background:

As everyone is aware, Carbon Monoxide Incidents (CO) are of great concern to the public. The
Ramsey Fire DeP~artment is currently responding to these incidems with one vehicle (Engine #2)
and a crew of three.

On arrival, the c~ew first checks the physical condition of the occupants and treats accordingly.
(Note: In severer carbon monoxide exposure, the affected persons must be brought to a unit
similar to a diving chamber for treatment). Next, the entire structure is inspected for carbon
monoxide with She gas detector, with all ppm readings being noted on the Ramsey Fire
Department two,art form. If the reading is unusually high, 100 ppm or greater, and constant,
the home owner/~s instructed to call Minnegasco.

Ramsey Fire DePartment leaves a packet (enclosed) with the home owner on departure.

Board Action:

Discussion on the level of current response and possible changes for future responses.

Reviewed by:
Fire Chief

FB :02/14/96
/ccr
