Major Recreational Uses <br />Mississippi West Re~onal Park_ <br /> <br />Retreat Center <br /> The Mississipl~i River and surrounding park lands offer an opportunity for daytime learning and <br />enrichment experienc~ for smaller groups. The center could service both the non-profit system and the <br />profit community. Thj~ retreat center uses an existing home (owned by Anoka County and leased to the <br />Andersons) as a core building. The retreat center is complimented by a retreat outdoor activity area. <br /> <br />Mountain Bike Course <br /> <br /> One of the gro~wing recreational demands is mountain biking. The former gravel pit location offers <br />excellent terrain. Its lcJcation within the park is not be disruptive to other park uses. It is a special fee area <br />to cover the costs of njaintmnmg and supervising the course. Trails would be laid out to ensure a safe <br />mountain biking experience. <br /> <br />Pet Area <br /> <br /> The Anoka Co¢nty residents enjoy the outdoor activities with pets. A fenced pet area compliments <br />the need for ~ <br /> controlle&,pet exercise / training area in a quickly urbanizing area. <br /> <br />Trail Development <br /> <br />Trail development is divided into three levels of use: <br /> <br /> Major P~k Trail - The major park trail crosses the entire park from east to west providing <br />an important linkage in,the North Mississippi Regional Trail system. An added feature of the trail is a trail <br />head facility, The trail ~s designed to accommodate diverse, large group use including bikes, walkers, cross <br />country skiers, and in- ,line skating. <br /> Park Tr~s - There is a system of paved trails within Mississippi West. The park trails <br />allow park users to mo~e from use area to use area. The loop trails are designed to accommodate diverse, <br />small group use includ~g bikes, joggers, walkers, cross country skiers, and in-line skating. <br /> Walking ~aths - There is a system of unpaved paths within the park intended for walkers <br />and hikers only. <br /> <br />Park Road System <br /> <br /> The park road sxstem is a "non-loop" layout. The road is set back fi.om the river fi.ont to maximize <br />recreational use of the dyer's edge. It allows full access to the park even with two residents. Only two use <br />areas are delayed until t~e residents within the park leave. Entry into the Mississippi West is controlled by <br />one entrance / exit at Ramsey Boulevard.
