CASE

REPORT TO PLANNING COMMISSION ON
TRUNK HIGHWAY #47/SUNWOOD DRIVE CONNECTION
By: Steven Jankowski, City Engineer

Background:

At the joint Planning Commission/City Council meeting held on September 19, 1996,
Commissioner Deemer requested a cost comparison of the "ESS" curve alignment proposed in
the Trunk HighWay ~47 corridor study with the previous alignment which connected Sunwood
Drive directly toi 147th Circle. A sketch is attached illustrating both alignments. Below is a
rough cost estimate of the construction costs associated with each alignment.

Ess Curve Alignment

1,250 Feet Roadway at $120/ft. $150,000

Original Alignment

750 Feet Roadway at $75/ft. 56,250
L~u-mp Sum TH 47 RT/Accelerating Lane 15,000
Lump Sum Additional Traffic Signal 150,000
221,250

It should be noted that the Ess curve alignment will have some environmental mitigation costs
because of the wetland and for this reason, a higher unit price for the road should be anticipated.
However, the cost of an additional traffic signal and the installation of a right turn/acceleration
lane offset the longer and more expensive roadway.

Commission Action;

None.

Reviewed by:
City Engineer

Copies also distributed to:
Mayor and City Council
City Administrator

PC: 10/01/96

~colleen\ccmow\pcase47.do¢
