577__

5,~to 6,000 visitors. Currently, we have sent off a letter to the President of the Lions Club and
he hag not yet gotten back to us on the issue.

With:regard to monument signs, the City has funding available for 1995 and with the funds
provided by the dissolution of the Ramsey Economic Development Corporation. There should be
fundifor a couple of additional signs this year. 'The City is looking at two possible sites. One
possibly at the McKay's Rapids Leasing facility, which would be an entrance sign for both the
City Md the industrial park area. That would be the brick monument sign that now exists at that
site. Me second site would be at the comer of County Road #116 and State Highway #47. The
prope~rty currently being shown by Wayne Johnson. Mr. Johnson has indicated that they may
have ~a buyer/developer for that property, so he will be contacting the City in the near future as to
the possibility of obtaining a sign easement for the City on the comer, being highly visible from
both County Road #1 t6 and State Highway #47.

The EDC also successfully completed its Sixth Annual Business Appreciation Day which was
conducted on August 23, 1994 at thc Links at Northfork with the largest turnout ever.

Events in 1994 also included a City of Ramscy booth at the Game Fair, which went very well
considering thc short notice given for thc City being able to have a booth there.

The EDC held a meeting with the Anoka Area Chamber of Commerce, at which tL'ue it was decided
that there was not a huge advantage in starting a wing of the Chamber here in the City of Ramsey.
However, as the City continues to grow and the business visitation program takes off, there may
be a greater market for this type of relationship.

Commissioner Kent arrives at 6:38 p.m.

The business visitation program has begun on a limited basis. To date, the program has been Staff
members Ryan Schroeder and James Gromberg and on occasion Ken Wagner and Glen Hardin.
Overall, they have been positive and the local companies have been expanding or growing, which
is a positive sign. Hopefully, they will look at growing in the City of Ramsey. In the furore, this
progra_ m should continue with thc EDC members participating.

Commissioner Nelson commen~ed that this would be a good public relations boost for the EDC as
mos~ of the time, they are usually visiting businesses seeking donations for various events.

Some goals for 1995 could include developing a marketing plan for the commercial and industrial
property available in Ramsey. The City now owns approximately 51 acres of
conm~erciat/industrial property should consider development of same. Another possibility is
seeing a separate ZIP Code for Ramsey. A third goal might be a redevelopment plan for the
Highway #10 corridor, specifically the Tungsten/'Rivgdale Drive section.

Ch~erson Wagner the inquired as to our progress with the ZIP Code issue.

Mr.~Gromberg stated that wi had received a letter in response to Mayor Gilbertson's letter. This
lett~ stated essentially the same things as we were told before. There are certain criteria for being
assigned a ZIP Code; however, we do not know what that criteria is, so we have contacted the
Pos[ Office for that information.

Chairperson Wagner then asked ff we had sent a copy of the letter we had received back from the
Postal Service to Mr. Larson.

Economic

Development.Commission / January 5, 1995

I
I
I
I
I'
I
I

!
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
