I <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br />I <br /> I <br /> i <br /> I <br /> <br /> I <br /> <br /> ! <br /> <br /> I <br /> I <br /> <br />Councilmember <br /> <br />introduced the following resolution and moved for its adoption: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION t~95-02- <br /> <br />RESOLUTIONi PROCLAIMING VOLUNTEERS OF AMERICA WEEK, MARCH 5 <br />- 12, 1995 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America, a Christian human service organization, is <br />celebrating its 9~th year of service to the people of Minnesota and the nation; it is therefore <br />certainly appropriate for us, the City of Ramsey, to join in the observance of this milestone with <br />the comrnemoratiSn of March 5 - 12, 1995, as Volunteers of America Week; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America is making a valuable contribution by providing <br />these services to ~ults and the elderly: six homes for mentally disabled, mentally ill, chemically <br />dependent and/or gldefly adults; congregate dining for seniors at 45 sites in Anoka and Hennepin <br />Counties; transitional housing for women and their families in Aitkin, Chisago, Isanti, Kanabec, <br />Mille Lacs, and Pi~e Counties; home delivered meals for persons 60 years of age and over;, semi- <br />independent livin~ services and supported living services; three housing complexes for families, <br />the handicapped, md the elderly; and four long-term health care facilities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREA~S, the Volunteers of America provides these services for children and youth: <br />a children's day cige, programs serving autistic, autistic-like, and/or developmentally disabled <br />youth; children's ~helters; in-home services; 52 foster treatment homes and correction group <br />homes; a msidenti~l treatment center for emotionally handicapped boys; a specialized behavioral <br />program for boys v)ith severe problems; short-term after care for youth with special needs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Volunteers of America provides two correctional services: a pm-release <br />and work-release {orrectional program serving men and a jail, workhouse and work-release <br />correctional program serving women; and <br /> <br /> WHEREA.~, the Volunteers of America, through its dedicated staff and volunteers and <br />the many people who help support their work through financial contributions, made a significant <br />impact on the lives 6f people in Ramsey; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS{, the Volunteers of America is commemorating its founding in 1896 and <br />urges others to join ~em in bridging the gap between human needs and the resources of the public <br />and private sector. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF RAMSEY, AlqOKA COUNTY, STATE OF MINNESOTA, as follows: <br /> <br />1) That the City of Ramsey does hereby proclaim the week of March 5 - 12, 1995, as <br /> Volunteers of'America Week in Ramsey. <br /> <br /> That copies of, this proclamation resolution will be transmitted to the Volunteers of America <br /> as evidence of our esteem. <br /> <br />2) <br /> <br />The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember <br /> and u~on vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: <br /> ; <br />and the following vote~d against the same: <br /> <br />and the following abstained: <br /> <br /> <br />
