I
I
!

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

January 25, 1995

Dear Council Members,

With ~he recent turnover of council positions, it is important
to reiterate our concerns with the increased traffic from
Bison!Street through our neighborhood. We are requesting the
closu=e of 171st at Bison Street.

Attached is a copy of one of the petitions previously
submitted (voicing our timely concerns over the inadequate
situation) including some past correspondence to City Council.
In addition, a petition is attached for the closure of 171st
at Bi,on Street.

It haslbeen nearly two years since any actions have been taken
with ~egards to the improvement of Bison Street (the last
project being, I believe, ~92-20 and ~92-23) and to date
nothing has been done to alleviate the increased traffic
t~roug~ our ne%g~borhood. We have been to numerous meetings
with ~lty administrators and the city council, and have
submitted numerous petitions asking for alternatives to the
presen~ situation. The outcome for our efforts thus far is
total ~rustration on the part of the citizens of Golden Eagle
EstateS.

Traffi~ has increased significantly to the detriment of the
qualit~ of our neighborhood. The traffic primarily originates
from De~lwood Hills and Trott Brook Ridge Developments located
on new~y created dead end streets off Bison Street and south
west of our neighborhood respectively. The new development
traffi~ cuts through our neighborhood solely for convenience
but not one of the 81 homes in Golden Eagle Estates uses the
new development's roads.

The citizens quite frankly have lost faith in the city
governmgnt realizing that their concerns have fallen on deaf
ears an4 cannot understand why the double standard exists when
we haveivoiced our strong objections to the situation over the
last 6-7 years.

We believe the only acceptable alternative at this point is to
close l~lst Ave. N.W. where it meets Bison Street, until that
time when Bison St. can be connected to Trott Brook Ridge.
At that~oint, the traffic from Bison Street and the Dellwood
Hills development can be dispersed among more than just one
route t~rough our neighborhood and we would not object to
171st being reopened at that time. In the meantime we will
still beiimpacted by the traffic from Trott Brook Ridge which
cannot b~ helped.

It has been stated that school buses require 171st to remain
