COMMISSION BUSINESS
Case ~1: Business Appreciation Day

Economo Development Coordinator Gromberg stated that in 1994, the City of Ramsey conducted
the Sigth Annual Business Appreciation Day at The Links of Northfork. This event was held on
Tuesday, August 23, 1994, and had one of the largest turnouts ever. Planning for this year's
event l~as begun with the mailing of letters to local golf courses (Rum River Hills and The Links at
Northt~ork) requesting proposals for hosting the event. Currently, we recommend that this event
be he~ the week of August 21, 1995, on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. The City
received one proposal for approximately $50.00 per player, if the number of golfers is below 144.
There~ere 110 to 120 persons who participated in the 1994 event. A bid has not been received
from Rum River Hills Golf Course.

Chai~erson Wagner commented that if The Links at Northfork were the successful bidder for
1995~we should assure the menu be modified from the 1994 dinner. Chairperson Wagner also
askedJfor a volunteer to chair this event.

Sam ~cGhee volunteered to be the 1995 Chairperson.

Cha~erson Wagner then reminded Commissioner McGhee that securing door prizes and
org~izing golf teams to participate was the greatest portion of the effort; however, Mr. Gromberg
would be more than happy to assist.

It w~s suggested that since hats were such a success last year, they may be as successful again in
199~. One concept was pre-printed items with the various business names on them.

ChairPerson Wagner and Commissioner Stafki agreed that in the past it has been difficult to have
.pe~le pre-register, causing difficulties in producing certain types of pre-printed promotional
~terns.

Co~missioner McGhee mentioned that he has some friends that do this type of printing and he
wc~uld inquire with them as to the necessary lead time for production,

Chairperson Wagner asked for someone to find a sponsor to fund perhaps half the cost of the hats
anO the City could fund the remaining half.

C~mmissioner Stafki suggested the possibility of offering a sleeve of golf balls with a logo printed
on~ them. This was done for the Board of Realtors at a cost of approximately $4.90 for the golf
bails.
L
A~ other issue for the Business Appreciation Day is the Business Hall of Fame Inductee. Two
p~ople were inducted in 1994, Al Phillips and Nils Sundquist as the 1993 and 1994 inductees.
~mmissioner Stafki asked for the list of nominees from last year to review at the March meeting
o~ the EDC.

~hairperson Wagner suggested that all of the members review this issue for any additional
nominees.

~ere was some discussion as to the formatting of the awards presentation.

..

Economic Development Commission / February 2, 1995
Page 2 of 5
