Mr. Mayor, City Council, and Park Commission,
I am writing to let you know that we strongly oppose the
proposed walking path around Sunfish Lake. We have live at
14851 Sunfish Lake Blvd for 8 years and enjoy the privacy and
beauty of the area.
We~are especially opposed to the detrimental effect a path
completely surrounding the lake will have on the waterfowl
and Other wildlife that use this area to live, and depend on
the brush and marshy area of the shoreline for cover, food
and nesting places. This area around Sunfish Lake is one of
the ~ast wilderness areas of the city, especially as more and
more developements are crowded in at an amazing rate and the
wildlife is being pushed into a smaller and smaller area. An
8 to ~10 foot wide path around the lake would completely de-
stroy hundreds of feet of living space these animals need.
We feel that one of Ramsey's many attributes is areas like
these that help perpetuate the wildlife and these areas must
be protected! Does the human population have the right to
enjoy all this for themselves without regard to what it would
do tO hundreds of animals?
W~ feel that Ramsey already has many nice parks and paths
in t~e works. However, we have noticed that the maintenance
of t~e existing parks is alzeady lacking. It was brought to
our ~ttention last summer how much work Central Park alone
needed as far as repair of baseball fences and maintenance of
the grass. We don't feel that more parks and paths should be
develbped until the existing ones are well maintained.
Another concern is the lack of police coverage there would
be in! the evening hours when these paths would be the
busiest. Will we have our property vandalized or our pets
harralssed? This path would be in our backyard. Are there
not any other areas where more paths and parks could be made
that do not involve private property with existing homes on
them?
Wel have tolerated the presence of the landfill directly
across from us as long as we have lived here. Although it is
closed now, it will be there forever and the worry of poten-
tial environmental problems are always present. Please do
not ask us to also sacrifice our backyard for this walking
path.
Please take all of these concerns of ours into consider-
ation.

Sincerely,
