I
I

I
I
'1

I
I

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

MARCH UTILITY AND PARK NARRATIVE

Significant to the month of March was the installation of a mini-shelter at Woodland Green Park
and vandalism repair to the Park Center garage door.

In addition, you w~ill note there are 48 hours expended on ice rink related activity. This is due, in
part, to the skatin~ season extending through the first week in March. Normally, the season ends
approximately th~ third week in February. Never has it extended beyond March 1. We also
completed repairsito both rinks at Central in preparation to painting of the rinks by the volunteer
Football Boosters, Saturday, May 20.

Most unique about activities in March was all the spring and summer preparations. Detailed plans
were made, part-time employees were hired and notified of their start date, materials were
inventoried and x~e-stocked. In addition to ordering the delivery of the scheduled capital
improvements for 1995, a fair amount of the in-house improvements and maintenance plan for the
athletic fields was begun.

With regard to theutility areas, the usual water tests and repairs occurred. We also began turning
and cleaning wate~rmain valves in preparation for spring flushing. Twelve water meters were
installed, a traffic-4tamaged hydrant was repaired and the airline fittings were installed on Well #2
completing the ref0rbishment project. The City televised and jetted the majority of sewer lines in
the Flintwood Hill~ and River's Bend Subdivisions. Because this was contract work, the bulk of
the activity did not require staff's presence, with some exceptions. It is expected that this
televising and jettirJg program will be done each year on a rotational basis by dividing the City into
approximately 7 to 10 areas; therefore, within several years, we will return to the River's
Bend/Flintwood I!ills area. Some sanitary sewer lines obviously may need attention on a more
frequent basis.

/jmt
