It was stated that the 'bill will benefit the cities and <br />community television. Both entities should share in the cost of the <br />le~slative efforts in trying to pass the bill. <br /> <br />Co'ten agrees that the bill will help the cities but why should the <br />Co~amission contribute. M. Johnson stated that if there are no <br />clo~uresto the laws, next the cable companies will fight and ask not to <br />pay their franchise fees. QCCCC franchise expires in 1997. It MACT <br />and the League if the Commission would contribute as much as <br />QCCCC can afford to give. <br /> <br />Iac0bson asked what is the expense incurred? It is part of the Leagues' <br />responsibility to represent the cities. Creighton stated that $67,000 has <br />been spent already. $30,000 has been raised so far, mostly Metropolitan. <br />M~CTA is an affiliate of the League but MACTA cannot lobby or <br />collect money as an organization. <br /> <br />O'Connell suggested taking money from both check books to help. <br /> <br />Cotten suggested that a phone call to the other Commissions be made <br />first. It would be helpful to know what they are contributing. <br /> <br />Meredith's Report <br /> <br /> Kathi Donnelly-Cohen stated that Meredith received a letter from <br /> WC.~O that they will discontinuing the weather channel on Channel <br /> 38. <br /> <br />O'C°nnell stated that the weather channel has improved and local <br />weather has increased in frequency. <br /> <br />Donnelly-Cohen asked if the Commission had any questions or <br />comkments on the report. M. Johnson stated that is was a very good <br />repdrt but asked why Burnsville/Eagan is at 60%. It is probably due to <br />the ~lemographics and affluence. O'Conneil stated that older citizens <br />and ipeople involved in outside activities are hardest to sell cable tv to, <br />which is the case in Anoka County. <br /> <br />MISCELLANEOUS <br /> <br />None <br /> <br />ADJOURNMENT, - 9 <br /> <br /> <br />
