The L~ague's Genial Counsel has held that a council member is not required <br />to explain his o~' her rrason for abstaining from th~ vote but may do so. Of course, you <br />may choose to ~eave the council chambers to prevent the a~ that you may have <br />influenced ~he deba~ or another pe~on's vot~. <br /> <br />If you choose to r~main in the room, ~hen as thc presiding officer, you can still conduct <br />the business of ~he meeting such ~ re¢ogr~ng members who are entitled to use floor, <br />enforcing the ~les r~lating to debn~ and decorum within the assembly, and putting <br />questions to a v~te. <br /> <br />If you n~ed additional information, please do not hesimu~ ~o contact me. <br />Very u-uly yo.uts., <br /> <br />D.
